Clever Interactive Prints That Will Inspire You

If you’re struggling with unleashing creativity for projects, take a look at some clever interactive prints that will inspire you! While many believe that print can be boring, it’s actually far from true. Believe it or not, many designers have stepped up their game by incorporating more creative elements into traditional print. With technology taking over, print shines as an eye-catching alternative that helps content stand out.

A few methods to make print interactive and stand out:

  • Spot UV
  • Die Cut
  • Metallic Foil

Spot UV

Spot UV is a clever yet subtle way to raise interest from prospects when they feel the print product. The raised surface can be used to a designer’s advantage through proper placement and composition (eg. putting braille on print that allows those who are blind to interact).

Die Cut

The flexibility of die cut printing means you aren’t tied down to one shape/form. Experiment with ovals, leaf shapes, and rounded corners for business cards, or custom shapes with products like magnets and vinyls.

Metallic Foil

A popular printing finish, many in the printing industry love the looks of metallic foil. While it may not seem as direct in regards to interaction, you may create optical illusions with metallic foil that are pleasant for the eyes. Foil is often raised and therefore can also create a tactile experience much like spot UV.

Traditional print used to be simple and classic. Now, that alone isn’t enough; there needs to be more engagement in order to spark interest. An efficient user experience is not only eye-catching, but promotes interactivity and engagement as well. Who says print has to be boring? Check out these clever interactive prints that will inspire you for your next project!

SwivelCard – Andrew DePaula

Created by entrepreneur Andrew Depaula, the SwivelCard was initially a Kickstarter project that was launched a few years back. The main idea was for the SwivelCard to be a business card that also acts as a USB, allowing for it to be folded and plugged into a desktop/laptop. Viewers are then able to access further information about the card owner.

Innovative and more high-tech compared to the standard business card, unfortunately this project never came to life despite being backed up by many supporters on Kickstarter. Nevertheless, the concept was a brilliant idea that garnered a lot of attention online.

For those who like puzzles, this design is perfect for enticing users to play around with print in order to uncover a message. Lisa Sanders, who works at her own PR firm Lisa Sanders Public Relations, wanted a self-promotion product that could easily let clients know what exactly public relations was in order to promote her business. She then enlisted help from Red Peak Branding to create this tactile information wheel.

Sanders wanted her message to be sophisticated yet simple, which Red Peak Branding delivered by creating the 7-inch by 7-inch interactive information wheel featuring mixed letters and theme colors of Sanders’ PR firm. The jumbled copy encourages users to rearrange the wheels until they unveil the message “A Tricky Story Well Spun,” representing what the firm has to offer with a fun twist to it.

“We opted to create interest and connection via a puzzle-like challenge, offering a bit of edge and sophistication. It’s a small package that packs a punch,” says Sanders.

Aside from these clever interactive prints that will inspire you, print media will continue to make an impact on audiences. As traditional as it is, there are times where print reaches audiences that digital media can’t. So long as communication continues to exist, so will the need for print.
