Everything You Need to Know About International Print Day

International Print Day 2018 is on Wednesday, October 17th! Print businesses are getting ready to release the full fury of their social media marketing strategy and inundate Twitter with all things print.

Perhaps you’ve heard of International Print Day but haven’t participated yet and aren’t sure where to start. Fear not – by the end of this article, you will know everything you need to in order to jump right in.

What is International Print Day?

International Print Day is an annual 24 hours of global celebration for all aspects of print and print marketing. Founded by Deborah Corn in 2014 and hosted by Print Media Centr, this event is an opportunity to promote, share, and learn about print. Most of this is happens through social media, where tweets or posts contain hashtags to show their involvement in International Print Day (e.g. #IPD18 for this year).

According to the official website internationalprintday.org, the theme this year is collaboration, with the hashtag #PrintWith. So this means you’ll want to include both #IPD18 and #PrintWith in your tweets or posts.

When is it?

International Print Day takes place the second Wednesday of every October. This year it falls on the 17th.

As a global print community event, it takes place over many time zones. It starts in Australia at 9AM on October 17th (which would be the afternoon of October 16th for most of North America) and ends at 6PM ET on October 17th.

Where is it happening?

Although International Print Day is largely a borderless virtual event taking place online, there are some physical events as well. The official website lists some Hot Spots. You can also host your own Hot Spot event. Their webpage offers some suggestions.

Twitter is by far the most popular social media platform for International Print Day, but Instagram and Facebook are also seeing more posts.

#PrintChat, a weekly chat hosted by the founder of International Print Day, is another great place to tune into on October 17th at 4PM ET.

Who can participate?

Anyone who wants to express their love of print can participate in this open access event, you’ll need a social media account to share content. Many participants are from the print industry and marketing community as well as other related industries such as design, packaging, publishing, supplies, and more.

You can participate as a company, group, or individual (or all three!).

Why should I participate?

Participating in International Print Day is an excellent opportunity to create engagement with your audience and establish your social media presence. Here are some ways it can help your business grow:
